Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 ?

Hello people, I am recently encountered a problem with my outlook. I use Microsoft outlook 2003 on my windows XP operating system and when I am trying to start outlook 2003 then the outlook is giving error messages: “Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open the outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists” I am unable to find the reason of the problem. If anyone knows more about this problem then please tell me about the causes and resolution of the problem. Thanks in Advance!

Hi,

Cause - This is a problem which commonly occurs when you deploy outlook 2003 with the Microsoft office 2003 Custom installation wizard and specify a personal folder (.pst) file in the windows Installer transform (MST) file by using the Default location of PST files path option. The reason for this problem is the file name that you had specified instead of a folder path

Resolution – To solve this problem for future installations of office, do the custom installation wizard to edit the MST file. To do so follow these steps:

  • On the Change Office User Settings page, expand Microsoft Outlook 2003 and expand Miscellaneous and click on PST settings
  • In the right pane, double click on the Default location of PST files , and then type the path that you want in the Default location for PST files box
  • Click on OK , and then follow the steps to complete the wizard. When you have corrected the MST file, deploy office by using the correct MST file

To resolve this problem for existing installation of outlook that is experiencing this problem specify the .PST file by using the Mail icon in Control Panel
