Problems with Outlook2003 on vista ?

Hello everybody, I was the windows XP user and just a week ago I have upgraded my operating system to Windows Vista and everything was so far so good but then comes an issue with outlook 2003. I had earlier used Norton antivirus but due to the upgrade I have to stop the Norton and then completed the setup of windows Vista. Now I am unable to upload and download the emails with attachments. My ISP is running Norton, is it the main problem. In windows vista I have seen that a program named Windows Defender is installed that is software included with vista. My Account information is correct. What to do?

Answer 1

My friend, Windows defender is not an antivirus program, it is just a malware/spyware protection that is provided with windows vista. It means that you don\'t have the antivirus protection right now. At this point of time don\'t download any mail because the environment is unprotected due to the absence of antivirus. Norton/Symantec has a horrible history and even if you uninstall it from your PC, some registry entries and artifacts remain that points Norton/Symantec. Sometimes it gives vulnerable results and system strangely behaves.

Neither the ISP nor the Windows Defender is the problem in your case. The reasons can be your account settings and you need to test account settings . Check the POP3 settings because vista has issues with POP3. According to the MS tech support, outlook is not working with POP3 under vista. You can use outlook Express, Windows mail or Outlook 2007 that works fine with POP3 on vista.

Some steps to solve the problem,

  • Go to programs > Accessories and right click on the command line and select the run as Administrator
  • At the prompt type “ Set global autoturninglevel=disable ” and press enter

You can try this tip that solves Firefox and POP3 through outlook and vista.
