The error messages may pop up to your computer screen if there is a problem in connection between outlook and email server. These are some of the reasons that might be a reason for the occurrence of the Error message ‘Unknown Error 0x8004020\',

  • You are not connected to the internet or on a network, or your mail server is temporarily unavailable
  • The account settings that you have made is incorrect
  • Your user profile in outlook is damaged
  • An email item in POP3 server is damaged
  • Your Antivirus is incorrectly configured
  • The Outlook installation files get damaged
  • Your personal firewall configuration is incorrect

To solve this problem,

  • Check whether you are connected to the internet
  • Check if your mail server is available or not. To check this open your internet browser and open any website like http://www.repairpst.info
  • If the site is open correctly then send yourself a test e-mail to verify that you can send and receive email messages without receiving an error message
  • If you still have problems then verify your account settings. To verify account settings,
  • Click on start > Run
  • Type control panel and press enter
  • Double click on Mail. The mail setup dialog box will open
  • Click on Show Profiles
  • On the general tab under When starting Microsoft outlook, use this profile, click Prompt for a profile to be used and then click Add
  • In Profile Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new email profile, click OK
  • In E-mail Accounts box, Click on Add new e-mail account, click Next
  • Click the appropriate server type for your new email account and click Next
  • Type your account information in required boxes and click next
  • Click finish and click OK

If the problem is still there then you can try outlook repair software to repair any corrupted PST files that is being the cause of the corruption.
