Restore Outlook after Reinstall ?
Hi everyone, this is Jenifer Garden from Miami LA. I am using my official laptop that was given to me two years back and now the laptop is slower than before due to unnecessary files. Yes I like music so many of my favorite videos are on my laptop but now the situation is that it is very slow and I am going to format my computer. Before doing the OS format I need to take the backup of outlook express and after formatting I need to reinstall outlook and then restore the outlook express. These things are complicated for me and I want your help to provide me the details about how to do all these things accurately since my outlook is very precious for me.
You are on the right way Jenifer. The thing that you need to care about is to do the complete backup of your outlook express since it carries your asset and no one want to loose their official files. Things that you need to do are,
- Backup Outlook Completely and keep it at safe location like CD or DVD or on those drives where the outlook and windows OS is not installed
- Uninstall the Outlook express
- Format your primary drive (generally C :)
- Install the Operating system
- Reinstall the Outlook as a fresh copy from Microsoft Outlook CD
- Restore the outlook backup files to outlook express
You need to first make all the system files and file extension visible. To do so
- Double click on my computer
- Go to tool menu. Choose folders options and click on view tab
- Under the hidden files and folders, click show hidden files and folders and then click to clear the hide file extensions for the known file types check box
- Click to clear the Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended) check box and then click on yes
- Click OK
Now backup all outlook express data. It means you need to take the backup of Messages, Address Book, Mail accounts and News Accounts. To Do these things you can follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670/EN-US
After you take the backup, you are now able to perform the outlook uninstall process. You can do this using the control panel > Add or Remove Programs. Then click on the windows setup tab. Under components, scroll down until you see the outlook express listed. Click on Apply and then OK.
If you are interested in formatting your primary drive, do it and then re-install the operating system. In case of Formatting, you don\'t need to do the outlook un-installation because everything present on the primary drive will be automatically deleted. After your computer is successfully formatted, Install the fresh copy of outlook from the outlook CD or from the Microsoft Office CD.
Then use the backup files and restore all the files to your outlook. To know the complete process you can follow the same page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670/EN-US
I think you will do these things very easily if you follow these simple steps. If any problem occur then you can use the outlook PST Repair software that can recover all your data from formatted drives, corrupted backups and deleted files.
