Error when copying outlook data \"can not copy: the path too deep\" ?
I am having problem with my outlook. I tried to copy my outlook data from my old computer system to an external drive and load on my new computer. I have not changed the path location or names for my outlook data but when I try to save a copy of my outlook data, I get an error message “cannot copy outlook: the path is too deep”. Really don’t know the reason of this problem. Need your help!
You need to copy the data files i.e. the .PST files within the Explorer and paste them where you want. The path is not involved in it. If you are worried about how do you find the .pst files listed individually then the correct path of it should be the c:\\Documents and Settings\\<user name>\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Microsoft\\Outlook.
There is an option in windows explorer to display file types turned off. The files with the office logo are generally the PST files. When you take the cursor over the file then the tooltip says office data file. Select these files and copy to another folder or drive where you create the backup. Just right click it and drag it to the folder where you want to store it. Then choose the copy after releasing the mouse. Make sure that outlook is closed while you are doing these things.
