where is my outlook data stored in vista ?
I need to backup my outlook data, but I was unable to find the location of .pst file. Tell me where outlook saves the .pst file in windows vista.
People often ask this question that where the outlook PST files is stored. The answer is the outlook stores the data in outlook folders. These outlook folders are either in a mailbox on an Exchange Server or in Personal Folders .pst files on your system. Backup and Dual-booting between different windows versions all involves using the same files.
Unfortunately there is no any tool provided which can use to take the backup of the outlook PST files. To do the backup you have to manually do the process. The steps are:
- Exit from Outlook
- Copy the files you want to back up
Microsoft offers a Personal Folders a backup tool which can be use, but it can not close outlook properly and only supports the PST files, you need to copy the files by yourself or using a batch file/script to make copies before opening outlook.
Vista File Locations
The simple way to see the files with any operating system is to search the files using find command. On Windows Vista you need to browse to windows Explorer's Organize > Folder and Search Options > View tab > select Show hidden files and Folders . Vista replaces Documents and settings folder path with a User's Path. As a result, in Vista you will find Outlook stores the PST and OST files in c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.
